Children and Going to the Dentist
It is always important to bring your child or children with you when you come for your regular check ups with your dentist, no matter how small they are. They will get used to the surroundings, smells and noises you hear in a dental surgery. General recommendation would be to start bringing you child to the dentist for their own check up around the age of 3. Then they have a better comprehension of what they can expect and they will understand better when the dentist explains to them what he/she will do at his/her first visit. Do not worry if your child will not sit still or is fussy at his/her first visit to the dentist, this is normal, and will improve in due course. For children between the ages of 24 – 36 months, the parent may need to sit in the dental chair and hold the child on their lap so that the dentist can examine their teeth.
