Halitosis

A big part of the population suffers from halitosis also better known as 'bad breath'. The most common causes are the bacteria that are present in tooth decay and food particles present in the mouth due to the lack of good oral hygiene. Bad breath can also occur in people with a medical disease such as diabetes, liver problems and kidney failure. There are several other reasons for a bad breath such as smoking, dry mouth, stress, dieting, hormonal changes, post nasal drip, etc. The best way to combat a bad breath is by having very good oral hygiene. By brushing and flossing twice per day and by also brushing your tongue daily you will help reduce the bacterial count in the mouth considerably. By chewing on sugar free chewing gum, you also improve the saliva flow in to the mouth which helps neutralising the pH and it washes out a lot of the bacteria which forms in the mouth. Therefore it is advisable to see your dentist and hygienist regularly to help you to maintain good oral health.
