Oral Cancer

Oral cancer is the 6th most common cancer in the world with the over 40’s most commonly affected, male more than female. The most common sites for oral cancer is the tongue, floor of the mouth, soft palate, lips and gums. If detected early enough it can be treated easily. If left untreated it could cause more serious problems, chronic pain, dysfunction and eventually death. The risk factors are long term tobacco use, alcohol, certain foods and exposure to sun. Be aware of any red or white patches that appear in the mouth region and also be aware of mouth ulcers that does not clear after 14 days. Tell your doctor or dentist if you discover any lumps and swellings in your head and neck area which you have not noticed before. It could be nothing, but it could also save your life if it were something harmful. Awareness is the best tool to help fight oral cancer. Therefore, see your dentist regularly where they can check for any early signs of this disease.
