Root Canal Treatment

The nerve canals inside the roots of the tooth can become infected after bacteria seeps into these canals from a deep dental cavity, a bad fracture in the tooth or even after trauma. The nerve will eventually die. Inside the root canals pressure then build up due to the increased blood flow and cellular activity and this pressure causes pain when biting onto the tooth or when tapping the tooth. It will also feel very sensitive to hot and cold temperature changes.

The pain will eventually get so bad, that you will seek emergency dental attention. One options which will cure the problem is an extraction, but then you loose your original tooth which leaves you with a gap where the teeth could drift into, changing the bite, etc. Therefore root canal treatment might seem like an expensive option, but once the tooth is extracted, the options you have to replace the tooth, might prove to be more expensive (i.e. implant, bridge, denture) that it is always best to try and keep your original tooth if at all possible.

All our root canals at Bean Oak Dental Care are done by Dr. Gareth Jones who has got a special interest in endodontics and he is using the latest microscope technology to help him treat your tooth to the highest standard. Before any root canal treatment is undertaken, Dr. Jones will explain every step of the treatment in the best detail and he is also excellent in treating the most nervous of patients.

Once the root canal treatment is completed, the options for restoring the tooth is either by filling or by a crown which would be the best option long-term as root filled teeth become more brittle due to the loss of the nerve inside the nerve canals. Your dentist will discuss the best option for your tooth after the root canal therapy has been successfully completed.
