Treatments & Procedures

Q: What treatments does your dental practice offer?

At Bean Oak We offer a multitude of treatments from simple regular Dental Check-ups to Teeth Whitening and Smile Makeovers.

You can find a full list of our treatments here.

Q: How do you help patients who are anxious or nervous about dental visits?

We pride ourselves in getting to know our patients well before we start treatments, and during their initial consultation will discuss thoroughly their needs and fears before treatment. We can book appointments accordingly depending on time needed, and good times of the day to do treatment. We also offer IV sedation for severe anxiety or complicated treatments.

Q: How often should I have a dental check-up?

Ideally every six months, but it depends on your oral needs.

Q: What can I expect during a routine check-up?

During a routine dental check-up the dentist will provide a comprehensive examination of your teeth, gums, and mouth for signs of decay, gum disease, or oral cancer. The dentist will also discuss your oral hygiene habits, ask about your general health, and may take X-rays to check for hidden problems.

Q: What should I do if I have a dental emergency?

Please telephone us at 01189 770 869 as early in the day as possible to make an appointment during the opening hours. We will try to fit your appointment on the same day. For out of hours emergencies, please see here.

Q: Do you offer teeth whitening or cosmetic dentistry treatments?

Yes, we offer teeth whitening. Quick, effective and relatively inexpensive, teeth whitening is an excellent option for improving the appearance of a smile. You can read more about it here.

We also offer veneers – they can improve the colour, shape, length and position of your teeth. They can be used to correct a chipped tooth, close gaps between teeth, and improve the colour and alignment of teeth. You can read more about veneers here.

Q: What are my options if I have missing teeth?

Dentures (usually referred to as “false teeth”) are removable appliances that are used to restore missing teeth. Bridges are ideal for people who don’t like dentures and only have one or two teeth missing.

Q: How can I straighten my teeth as an adult?

For adults we recommend INVISALIGN, a series of removable clear aligners that are an alternative to braces. The aligners are worn throughout the day and night to gradually move the teeth over a period of time. Read more about orthodontic treatments here.

Q: Are there ways to fix a chipped or cracked tooth?

There are many ways to fix a chipped or cracked tooth. Sometimes, if the chip is very small, a slight tooth smoothing will suffice, some can be repaired with a simple composite white filling (which could possibly be done on the same day as the consultation). More severe cases might require a porcelain veneer or crown, depending on the severity of the fracture.

Q: What causes teeth grinding, and how can I stop it?

Teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, can be caused by stress, anxiety, sleep issues like apnea, or even an uneven bite. It often happens unconsciously during sleep, but some people clench or grind during the day as well. Lifestyle factors such as caffeine, alcohol, and smoking can make it worse, and over time, grinding can lead to tooth wear, jaw pain, and headaches.

The good news is there are ways to manage it. Wearing a custom nightguard is one of the most effective ways to protect your teeth. Reducing stress, improving sleep habits, and limiting stimulants like caffeine can also help. If grinding continues, your dentist can check for underlying issues and suggest the best treatment for lasting relief.

Q: Do you offer night guards?

Yes, please ask at reception for more information.

Q: My gums bleed when I brush them. Should I be worried?

Bleeding gums could be the first indicator of gum disease due to plaque build up around the gums. We would advise that you come in and see us for a check up.Yes, please ask at reception for more information.

Q: Are Dental X-rays safe?

Exposure to all sources of radiation, including the sun, minerals in the soil, appliances in your home, and dental X-rays, can damage the body’s tissues and cells. Fortunately, the dose of radiation you are exposed to during the taking of dental X-rays is extremely small.

At Bean Oak, our X-ray machines are serviced regularly to ensure accuracy and safety.
